Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 tied in sales

The race is tighter than ever.
As part of its latest unfortunate quarterly financial report , Sony announced that total sales of the PlayStation 3 is a little more than 66 million units, exactly the same amount of Xbox 360 consoles that have been shipped worldwide according to Microsoft when it released its data on the 10th of January.
This is more than commendable considering that the Xbox 360 was launched with a lead of almost a year with respect to its competitor. But it is also important to note that the unusual longevity of this generation and the drastic price cuts of the PlayStation 3 were a key factor in achieving these figures.
On the other hand, the situation of both companies seems diametrically different right now. While Microsoft celebrated with great fanfare an excellent financial position, driven largely by its Xbox Kinect, Sony showed severe losses in its report released a few hours ago and the depreciation of the PlayStation 3 played an important role in this financial debacle .
So, the tie is a reality and is likely to leave the PlayStation 3Â behind the Xbox 360 during the coming quarters. However, today there really is little to celebrate within Sony and the potential fall of Kaz Hirai, the next director of the company, to reverse the situation before it’s too late.
