An agreement with Infinity Ward prevents other studios to produce post-Vietnam games.

The great success of Call of Duty Modern Warfare, developed by Infinity Ward, ended with the signing of an agreement (referred to now by Game Informer) that prevented any studio to develop a game in the series based on a post-Vietnam era.

With the announcement of Call of Duty Black Ops II, in the hands of Treyarch and set in a “near future”, this agreement may be flouted, which could end up assuming marketing problems of the title later this year.

For Infinity Ward, this agreement acts as a safeguard that ensures its future as responsible for the successful game series with contemporary futuristic releases . Modern Warfare 3 sold over 6 million in its first 24 hours.

However, for Treyarch, this can cause more of a problem. And not only by potential legal fringes that must be polished to ensure the release of Black Ops II, but by the creative constraints imposed that can not work in these times.

However, despite the fact that Activision has not made an official comment on the matter, it is understood that the debut of the shooter was made because there is a review of this business deal.

Treyarch and Infinity Ward share the production of each new installment at the rate of one game per year and per studio. Although the professional relationship is cordial between the two teams, agreements like this show that in business there are no friends.
