Wii U’s online services will not cost anything

The president of Nintendo hopes that this will encourage the ‘word of mouth’ of the console.


Satoru Iwata, Nintendo president has confirmed to investors that the Wii U online service will not be a payed service. Following the model of the current Wii and PlayStation 3, online play and the use of the online features of the console will be free for users.

Nintendo dismisses implement a subscription service style like Xbox Live and thus will offer online gaming and community services such as Miiverse completely free. Iwata has said he hopes that this free services promotes “word of mouth” for the console for users to refer their friends the system highlighting the ease of online play.

At this same meeting it was confirmed that Nintendo will announce the release date and price of the console this fall.
