Nintendo is unhappy with its 3DS sales in the West

Are lower than expected, while in Asia the opposite is true.

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata, said to the shareholders of the company that sales of 3DS in the Western market are below Nintendo forecasts, although this situation is expected to improve with the launch of titles such as New Super Mario Bros. 2 or the XL model of 3DS.

“Whereas the European and U.S. markets are higher than the Japanese in regard to population size, sales in these territories should be higher,” said the executive.

In this sense, Iwata explained that after the price cut of the 3DS, its sales soared across markets, but months later, have not been able to maintain that pace of sales as it has happened, for example, in Japan . So much so, that the president of Nintendo describes the results of 3DS in the West as “weak.”

“In late 2011, the sales momentum in these markets increased to the same extent in Japan. However, this rate was reduced in early 2012. As a result,” Iwata continued, “the proportion of sales of 3DS is now 20% of all games in those markets, so we have not been able to create strong sales. “
